Day 1 - Selous
Transfer to DAR airport for flight to Selous, the largest
game reserve in Africa. The landscape consists of extensive
Miombo woodlands, grasslands and the flood-plains of the great
Rufiji river. The wildlife is truly wild and the prehistoric landscapes give the feeling of venturing into an unknown wilderness. Late afternoon boat trip along the Rufiji river.
Spend the next 3 nights at Rufiji River Camp or Selous Safari Camp.
Rufiji River Camp is located on the banks of the Rufiji river, in a point where the ample and tranquil river is animated by many different species of animals.
The tented camp, situated in the heart of the reserve, is environmentally friendly and each tent is equipped with private bathroom and a veranda facing the river.
There is a constant flow of animals coming down to drink at the river, offering a permanent show to visitors of the camp. The water is usually full of hundreds of hippos as well as groups of crocodiles that laze in the sun on the sandbanks.
A structure in the central part of the camp houses the restaurant, bar and library, all with a view of the river and the sunset.
All of the camp structures, kitchen included, are recently renovated, attaining the highest level of comfort without sacrificing the feeling of total immersion in a completely natural environment. Electricity and hot water are powered by solar panels, while UHV-filtered drinking water is available throughout camp (including tents).
A covered swimming pool is situated in the camp, between reception and mess area.
Day 2 - Selous
A full day game viewing with picnic lunch. Game is plentiful
but requires more patience to spot than in the parks of Kenya
and Northern Tanzania. Selous is home to huge populations
of elephant and buffalo,as well as lion, leopard, giraffe,
Sable antelope, Liechtenstein¹s hartebeest and kudu.
Day 3 - Selous
An early morning walking safari accompanied by an armed ranger
and professional guide. Learn about bushlore, territorial
and feeding habits of the animals and many other points of
interest. Enjoy a picnic breakfast in the bush before returning
to the camp. Afternoon boattrip on the Rufiji river. Tall
and ancient Borassic palms tower above the river banks, hippo
and crocodile abound and the birdlife provides never ending
colour and movement.
Day 4 - Selous - Ruaha
An early morning walking or boat safari in Selous. After breakfast fly to Ruaha National park, one of Tanzania’s newest – and due to its remoteness – least visited parks. Afternoon game viewing. Spend the next 3 nights at Ruaha River Lodge or Jongmero Camp.
The Great Ruaha River is the lifeline of the Park; guests stay in their own riverside 'banda' designed to blend seamlessly into the surroundings. The local stone and thatch room has minimal impact on the environment and game viewing from the private veranda is a relaxing and enthralling option.
Days 5 & 6 - Ruaha
Two full days game viewing in Ruaha, noted for its large elephant
population and uncommon species of antelope such as the kudu,
roan and sable antelopes. Hippo and crocodile abound in the great Ruaha river which flows along the park’s entire Eastern border, creating spectacular gorges and scenery. There
are a number of photographic blinds overlooking waterholes
where the animals can be observed from close-up.
Day 7 - Ruaha - Dar Es
Salaam
Morning free and after an early lunch fly back to Dar es Salaam.
