Day 1 (Saturday)
Arrival in Cairo: staff will assist with clearing immigration and customs, and then transfer you to your hotel. Check in at the Meridien Pyramids Hotel with a room overlooking the Pyramids. Rest of day free at leisure. Overnight in Cairo.
Note: All travelers to Egypt must obtain a visa for entry. For those travelers with USA or Canada passports this is obtained on arrival to Cairo. (could be provided at a supplement of U$ 18.00 Per Person). Other nationalities should inform us of what passport they have. We can then inform you whether you need to obtain your visa before leaving for Egypt.
Day 2 (Sunday)
Buffet breakfast at hotel. Introduction to your private Egyptologist. A day's tour to Memphis, ancient capital of Pharaonic Egypt, and Sakkara, home of the oldest pyramid in Egypt: the Step Pyramid of Djoser. Lunch at a local restaurant. Continue on to the Pyramids of Giza, the last remaining Wonder of the Ancient World, and have a visit with the inscrutable Sphinx. Back to your hotel and overnight in Cairo.
Day 3 (Monday)
Buffet breakfast at hotel. Start the day by exploring the wonders of the Egyptian Antiquity Museum, featuring the treasures of King Tutankhamun. Continue on to the Citadel of Salah el Din, bane of the Crusaders, and to the Alabaster Mosque. Have lunch at Naguib Mahfouz Restaurant, and end the day with a visit to the Khan el Khalili Bazaars, where travelers have been finding bargains since the Middle Ages. Back to your hotel and overnight in Cairo.
Day 4 (Tuesday)
Breakfast at hotel. Check out, and then staff will transfer you to the airport and assist you with checking in. Fly to Aswan, gateway to Nubia and Lake Nasser. Staff will transfer you to the Sonesta Sun Goddess Cruise Ship, where you will have lunch on board. After lunch, sail around the cool and calm Nile waters of Aswan in a felucca, with views of Kitchener’s Island and the Agha Khan’s Mausoleum. Back to the ship for afternoon tea, followed by dinner and the evening’s entertainment of a traditional Nubian folk show. Overnight in Aswan.
Day 5 (Wednesday)
Breakfast, followed by a visit to the High Dam, with views over Lake Nasser; the Granite Quarries, where the great Unfinished Obelisk remains; and the beautiful Temple of Philae, situated on an idyllic river island.
We set sail at 12:00, with lunch on board. The afternoon brings a visit to Kom Ombo, the double Temple of Sobek and Haroeris that was both a hospital and Nile monitoring station in ancient times. From here we set course for Edfu, with afternoon tea and the Captain’s Welcome Cocktail (smart casual attire is recommended) in the evening. Dinner and nighttime disco. Overnight in Edfu.
Day 6 (Thursday)
Breakfast, followed by a visit to the Temple of Horus in Edfu. Set sail for Luxor. Lunch, afternoon at leisure. Dinner, followed by the fabulous Galabeya Party, where guests come dressed in this traditional Egyptian attire. Overnight in Luxor.
Day 7 (Friday)
Breakfast, followed by a visit to the West Bank antiquities: The Valley of the Kings, home to the well-preserved tombs of many of the New Kingdom pharaohs; the Valley of the Queens and the Temple of Hatshepsut, the famous female pharaoh; and the Colossi of Memnon. Lunch is on board, followed by a visit to the Karnak and Luxor temple complexes, the largest in all of Egypt. Dinner and Belly Dance show. Overnight in Luxor.
Day 8 (Saturday)
Disembark after breakfast. Transfer to the airport for the flight back to Cairo. Transfer to Le Passage Heliopolis Hotel. The rest of the day is free at leisure.
Day 9 (Sunday) Breakfast, followed by checkout and a transfer to Cairo International Airport for your final departure. |
