5 Day Wildlife Discovery

The wildlife-rich St. Lucia wetlands, mountainous panaromas of Swaziland, and awe-inspiring Kruger National Park are just a few of the highlights on this exciting wildlife discovery trip.

 

Day 1 - Durban, St. Lucia

After collection from your hotel, leave the bustling city of Durban. Driving through sugar cane plantations along the Indian Ocean seaboard to Northern Zululand and onto St Lucia, home of the iSimangaliso World Heritage Site. Enjoy a river cruise on the estuary known as 'birder’s paradise'. Here pelicans, flamingoes, hippos and crocodiles may be seen. Enjoy a game drive in your closed vehicle through the Hluhluwe Game Reserve. Arrive at your hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 2 - Swaziland, Hazyview

After an early breakfast, enter the Kingdom of Swaziland at Golela border post. Continue via the Lebombo Mountains through eastern Swaziland and exit at Mananga border post. Travel to the next private game lodge, with its awe-inspiring views, bordering the Kruger National Park. Arrive in time for high tea and late afternoon game viewing in an open safari vehicle with an experienced ranger and tracker. Return to the lodge for dinner where an African feast awaits you.

Protea Hotel Kruger Gate or similar - dinner, bed and breakfast basis

Bordering the Kruger National Park, only 100m from the Paul Kruger Gate, the Protea Hotel Kruger Gate provides guests with the ideal location from which to experience Africa first-hand. This 'lodge style' hotel, linked by wooden walkways, leads to 96 air-conditioned bedrooms, situated under indigenous vegetation at a level normally the sole domain of bird life. A highlight of your visit will be dining in the open air Lapa Restaurant under African stars, or spotting game from the wooden bar deck overlooking the Sabie River. Facilities include Tree House sleepouts, a bush walk/drive in our private reserve and a variety of sporting facilities.

 

Day 3 - Kruger National Park - Limpopo

Breakfast early and enter the world famous Kruger National Park, established in 1898. This national park spans over two million hectares in unrivalled diversity of flora and fauna. Spend the day in search of the Big 5, general wildlife and prolific birdlife. Exit the park at Orpen Gate and arrive at your private game lodge in time for afternoon tea. Enjoy an evening game drive in an open safari vehicle. Return to the lodge for a well deserved meal.

Day 4 - Panorama Route, Pilgrim's Rest, Sabie

Early morning game drive in the Kruger National Park. An open safari vehicle is available as an optional extra. After returning to the hotel for breakfast, travel via Kowyn's Pass to Graskop. Explore the breathtaking Panorama Route featuring the Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondawels, Bourke's Luck Potholes, God's Window and various waterfalls. Continue with a short visit to the quaint mining town of Pilgrim's Rest, Mac Mac Waterfalls and Sabie. A superb meal complements and completes the day.

Lone Creek River Lodge (Timber Cottages) or similar - bed and breakfast basis

The 5-Star Lone Creek River Lodge nestles in the river valley outside the town of Sabie, embraced by majestic mountains and evergreen forests. Breathtaking views will greet you every morning from five exclusive hotel rooms and eight private suites. Both en-suite and fully serviced accommodation include DSTV, open fireplaces, and tea and coffee making facilities. Elegant timber cottages provide an exclusive self catering experience. A rock pool offers a relaxing therapy. Private BBQ's can be enjoyed on the wooden deck with built-in braai. Alternatively, be spoiled in the Georgian styled manor house's restaurant, offering a five-course table d'hôte menu, served either indoors on the verandah or privately in the classic wine cellar. Activities available include: fly fishing, horse riding, hiking, golfing, mountain biking, river rafting, birding, helicopter excursions, hot air ballooning and pre-arranged game drives. Visits to the well-known waterfalls, Bourke's Luck Potholes, Blyde River Canyon, God's Window, Pilgrim's Rest, Cheetah Project, Sudwala Caves and Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Project will engrave the Lowveld's Panorama Route on your heart forever.

 

Day 5

After a hearty breakfast on the verandah overlooking the Sabi River, our journey to Johannesburg begins with a visit to the Lone Creek Waterfalls. Travel over the historical Long Tom Pass to the towns of Lydenburg, Dullstroom and Witbank. Our tour ends with a drop off at your hotel or OR Tambo International Airport.
